Jobs at MSC: Anita Mclean

Anita Mclean, a registered nurse by profession, has worked at Military Sealift Command for eight years, the past four years as the medical administrator within the command’s medical department.

Anita MMclean is responsible for several policies within this department and strives to improve upon current practices for an enhanced medical outcome for civil service mariners who crew the Navy’s logistics ships at sea. One way she achieves this is by ensuring that all medical documents are processed correctly for MSC’s more than 5,000 CIVMARs.  Once these documents are saved into the computer system, they get reviewed by the clinical branch before CIVMARs are cleared for their next assignment.

Additionally, Mclean oversees the medical contracts that assist Medical Service Officers or Medical Department Representatives when a medical emergency takes place on a ship.  If a medical emergency occurs on one of our vessels, Mclean’s work in contract administration makes certain that medical experts are available to provide advice and assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all over the world.

When asked about the most rewarding aspect of her job, Mclean said, “I feel most rewarded when a CIVMAR tells me ‘Thank you and I really appreciate your help!’ I am a Registered Nurse and it is gratifying to help someone find relief and assistance during one of the most stressful times in their life.”

Mclean’s advice to anyone interested in working for MSC, either in the medical administrative field or in another capacity is to simply apply.  “MSC is a great place to work, there is never a dull moment and a new challenge awaits your every day!”
