U.S. Navy and U.S. TRANSCOM Birthdays

U.S. Navy and U.S. TRANSCOM Birthdays

This month we celebrate the 243rd birthday of the U.S. Navy and the 31st anniversary of the formation of United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM).

As a Type Command for the U.S. Navy and the Naval Component of USTRANSCOM, the Military Sealift Command team can take great pride and satisfaction in celebrating these events, and know that you have significantly contributed to the success of these organizations over the past year.

October 13 marks the day our Navy was founded in 1775 when the Continental Congress determined a navy was needed to protect America and our international interests.

On this most auspicious of days, we honor and celebrate those who have come before us and those who serve in the Navy today, protecting our nation’s interests and keeping us safe and secure. In today’s increasingly complex global security environment, the U.S. Navy provides constant forward-presence in areas where our interests are being challenged, and MSC meaningfully contributes by providing essential assured logistics and service support.

In the same way we celebrate our U.S. Navy birthday, we recognize USTRANSCOM and the role that MSC plays as its Maritime Component in supporting the joint warfighter.

USTRANSCOM’s ability to deliver an immediate force today and a decisive force when needed is a unique capability and a significant strategic advantage of the United States. This ability is only made possible through the people of USTRANSCOM and its supporting units.

MSC directly supports the USTRANSCOM mission by providing maritime logistics and services. Our organic sealift ships, prepositioned force, ship chartering services, and most importantly our Mariner force deliver a powerful capability that supports our nation’s joint warfighters.

During these celebration periods, let us remember all those who serve our country, keeping us safe and doing the work of our nation. They will be there around the clock, far from our shores, defending America at all times.

We are gratified and motivated to be part of the U.S. Navy and USTRANSCOM teams!

United We Sail,

Rear Adm. Dee L. Mewbourne, USN

Commander, Military Sealift Command
