JOBS AT MSC: spotlight on our recruiting team

This month we begin a series of posts that will introduce you to members of MSC’s dedicated recruitment team who are responsible for recruiting and retaining our talented workforce.

Meet Lem Jordan, he is the deck branch head of the marine employment division – he  joined MSC in 2008, and plans on staying around for quite some time. Recently, we had the chance to sit down with Lem and ask him a few questions about his job and what makes it so rewarding…

What did you do before joining the Command? Before joining MSC I was a personnel administration officer in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years. I served as the director of numerous consolidated personnel administration centers throughout the Marine Corps and  I led the consolidation of personnel administration which required duties such as administrative, communication, logistical, financial and manpower support. I also managed 45 Marines in their efforts to support 2,500 Marines/Sailors and provided advice on issues related to personnel affairs, benefits, and privileges accrued to members of the armed forces.

What is the best part of working with the MSC employment division? The camaraderie of working as a team gives me a sense of pride. I really enjoy using my skills for negotiating with others, listening and sharing ideas, sharing tasks and responsibilities, and problem solving. The employees at MSC are motivated and work well together. The personnel in the marine employment division are very good at working together to support the fleet and needs of the command.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The gratitude received from a civil service mariner or applicant when providing them assistance.

Be sure to watch for future posts that will introduce you to more members of our recruiting team. You can always reach out to them by attending a job fair or calling the CIVMAR Support Center at 866-562-7672. You can also email or post a message on our Facebook page.
