Jobs at MSC – Amberlee Conwell

The following blog post is the third in a series introducing members of Military Sealift Command’s dedicated recruitment team, which is responsible for recruiting and retaining our talented workforce. This week’s post highlights Amberlee Conwell, the academy coordinator at the CIVMAR Support Center. In this position, she works with maritime academy students who accept positions with MSC to help them with all the pre-employment paperwork and activities. The CSC manages all pre-employment activities, like the receipt and processing of employment applications as well as supporting the CIVMAR workforce.

photoHow long have you worked at the CIVMAR Support Center? I have worked at the CSC for six years, first as a human resources specialist. I recently received a promotion and am now the academy coordinator.

What did you do before working at the CIVMAR Support Center?  Before working at the CSC I was working as a Customer Service Representative for one of the major telecommunications companies.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?  I think the most rewarding part of my entire job is building relationships and helping people start their career with Military Sealift Command. When you first meet them at the beginning of the application process, they are weary and unsure. By the end, I’m on a first name basis with the cadets, and talk weekly via telephone and e-mail to ensure they have the best pre-employment and employment process possible.

What do you like to do when you are not working?  I am the mother of two amazing little boys, Noa and Eli. When I’m not shuffling them to and from lessons and activities, I enjoy running, attending church with my boys, and volunteering in the community.
